Women Conquer the Art Business
Not long ago the art business was dominated by men: they made art, exhibited it, and bought it. Women's art was mostly invisible. In recent years, the men's nudes descended from the canvases and took matters into their own hands and became entrepreneurs. This film is about women who established themselves as successful gallerists, who built intricate networks, and who shape exhibitions that challenge and inspire audiences - and open new horizons.Gender dynamics have changed significantly in the art industry in recent years. Structures of the business itself have been altered with those changes. For banks, art is an investment option, for the traders something between passion and status symbols, and for society a way of conveying cultural values.
The role of women and their concrete positions in the art business reflect a contemporary shift and control of power structures and value attributions. We follow Yasmin Afschar, KARMA International and Andreija Hribernik who have not only reshaped the Swiss and international landscape of art but also infused it with fresh perspectives and innovative approaches.
These women are known for her their creativity and unwavering determination to carve out their own paths in a traditionally male-dominated field. The film allows an insight into the microcosm of the art trade and shows the macrocosm of feminist values. It is precisely here that we find women in important positions today. Switzerland, the center of international money and art trade, is the backdrop with a unique insight.
